A SHOP in Guisborough has been named the 2017 Best Independent Bookstore Retailer of Greeting Cards in the North.

The Guisborough Bookshop on Chaloner Street received the award at a special lunch at the Dorchester Hotel, London, on Thursday of last week.

RETAS, the trade organisation for the greeting cards industry, was launched by Progressive Greetings magazine in 2005, to recognise retailers both large and small, and outstanding employees.

The Guisborough Bookshop is owned and run by husband and wife Lloyd and Kirsty Brooks, who have managed the shop and greetings card business for five years.

They frequently host book signings and readings by local and regional authors.

Mr Brooks said: “It was an amazing experience and we are literally humbled by the support that we have had for a little town in North Yorkshire, not just here. We’re adding a lot more with a range of home gifts and cards, and maybe chocolates.

“We keep refreshing it but people don’t see the work that goes into it.”

The trophy for the award now sits proudly in the main window of the shop for all to see.

The Bookshop was sponsored for the award by greetings card manufacturer, Woodmansterne.
