AN enterprising farming couple, who have diversified into glamping, are looking forward to welcoming their first guests.

Sedgewell Barn Wigwams at Ainderby Steeple, Northallerton, which is set to open on July 24, is run by husband-and-wife team, Stuart and Catherine Tweddle.

The site includes two top-of-the-range Running Water Deluxe cabins on their working farm, Sedgefield House Farm, nestled between the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks, which makes it within easy reach of tourist attractions such as Lightwater Valley and the Forbidden Corner.

Catherine said: “My parents were pioneers in farm diversification almost 30 years ago. They ran three self-catering holiday cottages and a boarding cattery that I also helped manage.”

“My background in Rural Enterprise and Land Management, the agricultural industry and surveying has also helped us set up this new, exciting venture.”

In 2010, the couple took over the farm when Stuart’s parents retired.

Stuart said: “We farm about 500 acres of land and have an arable and potato growing enterprise. In fact, Walkers and KP Crisps use our potatoes, so there’s a Yorkshire connection to these well-known companies.

“We have a small flock of sheep that produce lambs in springtime, along with free-range hens that lay fresh eggs, available to buy on site.”

Catherine and Stuart have two children and their future plans include expanding their Wigwam cabin portfolio to six cabins, with the potential of installing hot tubs.

Catherine said: “In addition, we are currently developing a traditional Yorkshire barn for guests to enjoy as a place to relax, or use for family gatherings.

“We are delighted to be featuring these market-leading glamping cabins on our farm and are looking forward to meeting our first guests.”
