THE Swinton Estate has appointed Kevin Hughes as its new Cookery School tutor.

Known for his appreciation of diverse food cultures and modern cookery, he will oversee the school’s entire programme of two day, one day and half day courses in addition to a series of Chef’s Table demonstration dining experiences.

Mr Hughes has an accomplished culinary background that includes extensive travel in South East Asia, where he grew up. He also has six years of teaching experience, latterly as chef lecturer at Leeds City College.

His cookery accolades include second in the UK South Asian chef competition and first in the North East Culinary and Trade Association (NECTA) chef team competition, both in 2015.

Mr Hughes said he was "hugely excited" about his new role. "Having experienced a great variety of tastes and styles during my time abroad, I look forward to using my knowledge and experience to bring fresh energy to Swinton Cookery School and take advantage of the amazing fresh seasonal produce that surrounds us in this beautiful part of Yorkshire."

The appointment comes during a significant stage of development for the estate as it prepares to launch its Country Club & Spa this spring.

This will incorporate a new contemporary brasserie, garden terrace and bar alongside extensive leisure facilities including an 18-metre indoor swimming pool, wellness suite, gym, fitness studio, nine treatments rooms and beauty cottage.
