A FAMILY-RUN department store is bringing the sequined glamour of Strictly Come Dancing to its shop floor.

Dancers will be performing the Rumba, Cha-Cha and Jive at Barkers department store in Northallerton at Thursday, November 10, as the store launches its newly extended designer womenswear collection in a glittering event.

Northallerton Paralympics rower Laurence Whiteley, who won a gold medal in Rio in the mixed double scull with partner Lauren Rowles, will cut the ribbon to launch the opening of the new section at 3pm.

A red carpet, stretching from the front door to the first-floor designer department will greet customers, who can enjoy a glass of fizz and canapes in The Bistro, before a fashion show featuring clothes and accessories from Barkers’ latest collection.

Four dancers from North Leeds Dance Academy – Ping Liem and his partner Roxanne Youman and Ivan Silva Llamas and partner Hayley Davies – will perform the Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive.

Ping and Roxanne are both professional dancers and Latin Dance champions, while Ivan and Hayley are also champions and dance on the international circuit.

Barkers womenswear buyer Jane Hunter said: “Everyone has been enthralled by this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, and customers often chat about the show when they come into the department store.

“Everyone loves sequins, talented dancers and fabulous make-up, so we thought we would bring some of the Strictly glamour to Barkers.”

More than £1,000 worth of prizes, including shopping vouchers, perfume, designer gift bags and makeovers will be on offer.

Strictly Comes to Barkers takes place from 3pm to 7pm on Thursday, November 10.
