AWARD-WINNING regional ice cream producer Brymor Dairy has taken over a well known mobile ice cream business as part of it’s plans for expansion across Yorkshire and the North East.

Masham based Brymor has acquired Catterick based mobile ice cream business Barries Ice Creams and, with a fleet of three liveried vans and two trailers, will be attending a selection of local shows, fairs and events as well as being available for private hire.

Using only Guernsey milk from their own local herd of Guernsey cows, Brymor will be serving both soft and scooping ice cream in tubs and cones.

Barries Ice Creams has been established since 1968 and has been a regular feature in the marketplaces at Leyburn, Richmond and Ripon. Owner Barrie Proctor is taking semi-retirement and will continue to operate the kiosk at Richmond Falls and attend a selected number of events.

He said: "I am delighted Brymor will be carrying on the tradition of mobile ice cream sales. It is a great business and I wish them all the best for the future."

Brymor has taken over the concession in Leyburn market place and is looking to add to this in due course.

The mobile units are already booked for a number of events in the region this summer including the North Yorkshire County Show and The Yorkshire Dales Food and Drink Festival.

The move in to mobile ice cream sales is part of Brymor's business plan that has also involved the launch of a marketing drive focusing specifically at getting its 30 flavours on to more local shelves in farm shops and independent retailers throughout Yorkshire and the North-East.

Brymor is the only ice cream producer in Yorkshire to use milk from it's own herd of pedigree Guernsey cows and the move in to mobile will enable all the milk from the company's Guernsey herd to be used in ice cream production.

Nicola Moore, operations director, said: "We now have more than 350 outlets for our ice cream as well as our own ice cream parlour at High Jervaulx but it's great to be able to provide even more opportunities for people to enjoy Brymor."
