GEOFF Derham (pictured), has been appointed group operations director for Yorwaste, the recycling and waste management company.
The 52 year-old will be in charge of a team of 200 and has joined from York City Council where he was head of waste and fleet services.
His new role sees him responsible for leading and developing all Yorwaste Group operations, including its waste and recycling sites and vehicle fleet.
Mr Derham succeeds Steve Barker who was recently became Yorwaste managing director.
He said: "I already know the company very well given the work it does with City of York Council, but with a new managing director and commercial team now in place, it is now looking at new projects and to expand further."
Mr Derham, who is married with two children and lives in Drax, Selby, started his career with Selby City Council and one of his first jobs was as a refuse collector. He also worked for private waste company Onyx (now Veolia).
