A FREE range egg producer has seen a big increase in sales in local supermarkets this summer.

James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs says normally summer sales fall off with sales tending to be higher in cold weather.

However it believes programmes like The Great British Bake-Off have had an impact, alongside increasing reports about the health benefits of eggs – the number eaten at breakfast has risen 13.7 per cent. Adrian Potter, director of the business whose free range hens are on two farms near Thirsk, said: “The sales are extremely heartening, we’re very pleasantly surprised that sales have not only held during summer, but grown considerably.”

James Potter has seen a 250 per cent increase in sales over the past five years.
