DARLINGTON Building Society has been recognised for its involvement in fund raising.

It has won a Building Stronger Communities BigTick Award from Business in the Community (BITC), for its innovative affinity mortgage products. For each mortgage completion the society makes a £250 donation to the chosen charity.In 2013 it raised more than £24,000 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service, the Durham Light Infantry Memorial Appeal and Future Sport.

The latest will provide funds for Age UK Darlington.

Colin Fyfe, society chief executive, said: “Winning a Big Tick Award from BITC is a fantastic achievement for the society and something which makes us extremely proud.”
