TWO award-winning family food producers have joined forces to come up with a new product.

Staal Smokehouse teamed up with Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil to create its first Yorkshire Smoked Rapeseed Oil, which is handcrafted and smoked over oak and apple wood.

Owner Justin Staal and Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil’s Adam and Jennie Palmer have spent months working on the recipe for the new oil.

“Smoked food is really popular at the moment with home smokers and barbecue restaurants popping up all over the place,” said Mr Staal, who makes a range of delicately hand-smoked poultry and fish at the Staal Smokehouse, which is based on the family farm at Long Riston, East Yorkshire.

“I wanted to tap into people’s love of smoky food by giving home cooks a cracking culinary oil to work with too, but I wanted to use an oil that was pressed in Yorkshire.

“Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil is already an award winner and has a natural, nutty flavour that takes other flavours really well, and when Adam suggested a collaboration, it was a perfect match.”
