MP ANNE McIntosh has officially opened a new £200,000 showroom and extension at furniture and kitchen manufacturer Treske.

The award-winning company celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and has expanded its Station Road premises in Thirsk in response to a rapidly- increasing order book.

The new showroom features a flagship fitted kitchen, while the 4,500sq ft extension stores its wood and sawing operation.

The extension is called the Lofthouse Building, after Adam Lofthouse, a Treske director who retired last year.

Ms McIntosh, MP for Thirsk, Malton and Filey, said: “The success of Treske is vitally important to the local economy, creating jobs and promoting skilled craftsmanship in the area. Congratulations to Treske on such positive news.”

Justin Bartlett, owner and managing director, said: “We were delighted that Anne McIntosh, our MP and one of our loyal customers, agreed to open our extended and refurbished premises. This is the biggest investment in the company since it was formed in 1974.

“It reflects the growing demand for our products from across the United Kingdom and our confidence in the future, which is fuelled by the improving economic climate and the skills and commitment of our staff.”

Mr Lofthouse said: “It is humbling to have this new building named after me. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Justin for the past decade or so, since he bought the company, and I am delighted to leave it in such capable hands and in such good health.”

John Gormley, the brother of sculptor Anthony Gormley, founded Treske and created the company’s reputation for manufacturing the very highest quality of furniture.

Mr Bartlett said: “It is now time to move up through the gears and make Treske the epitome of a 21st century company, while maintaining our traditional values of service and craftsmanship.

“We are upgrading our website, to make it easier for customers to choose the products they want on-line, while our £200,000 investment in facilities on site make for an improved working environment and a better experience for our customers.”
