A SUCCESSFUL solicitors’ group has opened a new office in Darlington.

Newtons Solicitors has taken over Hodgsons & Mortimer Solicitors. It has re-branded to Newtons Solicitors and moved to new offices on Consicliffe Road, which were bought for £285,000. The listed four-storey building was built in the 1830s.

It has also recruited commercial property lawyer Gareth Jones as a partner to head the new office. He was previously at the Stockton office of national law firm DWF and Yorkbased Denison Till, and is experienced in development work, advising developers, investors, social housing providers, NHS Trusts and banks.

Chris Newton, who founded the Newtons Group with his wife, Sarah, in 2009, said: “Gareth Jones is a heavyweight commercial property lawyer and is a great addition to our growing corporate team.

“We are pleased to welcome him and his loyal client following, which has created a strong commercial presence for us in the North-East virtually overnight.”

Hodgsons & Mortimer was founded by brothers Nick and Richard Hodgson in 1995. Although the practice has changed its name to Newtons Solicitors, it remains a separate business entity to the rest of the group which also has offices in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, Leyburn, Richmond and York.
