A DARLINGTON company chose this week – National Apprenticeship Week – to announce major investment plans for its training facilities.

The Thermal Insulation Contractors Association (TICA) will spend more than £400,000 on redeveloping its national training centre and offices at TICA House in Allington Way, Yarm Road Business Park.

An extra floor will be added to the single-storey training centre to the rear of TICA House which will also see alterations, including a side extension, to create more workshop space.

Extra training and meeting rooms will also be created with the work completed by mid- August – ready for the 2014- 2015 academic year and the next intake of apprentices.

The move will allow thermal insulation training to expand to include the new Advanced Apprenticeship, which will be piloted in the autumn, as well as a variety of other new courses.

TICA will also increase the number of apprentices it can train in Darlington – it currently has 272 from sites throughout England and Wales – including Scottish students, who will train in Darlington from August 2014.
